Meet Marianne Horinko

Marianne HorinkoMarianne Horinko is an accomplished leader, business owner and conservative. Marianne was selected by President George W. Bush to serve as Acting Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2003. In this leadership role she was responsible for running EPA, an organization of 18,000 full time employees charged with protecting human health and the environment.

Before her tenure as Acting Administrator, Marianne Horinko served as Assistant Administrator, the second in command at EPA. She reorganized her office and focused on such priorities as Homeland Security and Emergency Response, Recycling and Waste Minimization and Workforce Development. She was instrumental in securing passage of the landmark Brownfields legislation in 2002, which creates jobs through cleanup and redevelopment of formerly contaminated land.

After the events of September 11th, Marianne provided strong leadership at EPA by organizing and managing environmental cleanup activities at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, the Pentagon and the anthrax contamination at the U.S. Capitol. In 2003, she supervised EPA's response to the Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster. Building on these experiences, she crafted groundbreaking policy at EPA called the National Approach to Response. This innovative policy unified EPA's response activities, breaking down stovepipes to ensure coordination and communication throughout the Agency. Her unique perspective and pioneering approaches to environmental protection helped to create efficient and economical environmental policies and protocols.

Following her service to our country, Marianne started The Horinko Group, a consulting service that helps clients by using innovation, flexibility, and strategic partnerships to advance environmental stewardship.

Marianne is married to Tim Horinko, owner of Keller Williams Fairfax Gateway Realtors. They have 2 children: Kaitlyn, age 12 and Louie, age 10.
